OPERATION OPERA?

Is It a Fairy Tale or Not?

And what is it like? Sweet, scary, or – embarrassing? Do you know that you too can compose a song, a ballad, an aria, and maybe even - an opera?

You don't have to learn music, you don't have to study. You just have to want it. And you can prompt it, meaning you can order what you want. Home delivery, like pizza or other fast food. And what you will get, you will see.

Is it really that easy to become Mozart or the Beatles today? Theoretically – yes! And – practically? Isn't it a delusion? How and where to do it?

In the Land of AI!

Now it will be a fairy tale: Once upon a time, in a faraway land herds of fantastic Super Beasts appeared... Well, no! Not over the hills and far away, but right now and here, next to us, i.e., in media and computers. They devour and digest everything in unimaginable quantities. For the time being, they are helpful and extremely useful to us. But whether it will always be like this – no one knows.

They have their own pastures, sorry - specializations. One of them feeds on music. Absorbs and digests daily 100 thousand new music pieces composed by humans. But it's growing like weeds and will soon be devouring much, much more.

A Beast Eats Everything

Our Musical Beast is very intelligent (artificially, of course!) It can create derivative products from that musical feed digested into elements. Such products are already appearing on the market today, i.e., on the Internet.

Recently the press reported that creating (or cloning!?) voice and music startup Eleven Labs is worth astronomical sums after the latest round of funding. They mentioned billions – difficult to believe! (The startup was established in 2022 by two Poles, Matthew Staniszewski and Peter Dąbkowski.)

Locked in a Giant Kaleidoscope

But I think these products, so far, cannot contain thoughts or feelings. And they probably never will. They carry no story or message. At best they remind me of pictures in a kaleidoscope: sometimes colorful, funny, or pretty, variable arrangements of broken glass fragments, but which do not express something sensible.

Of course, every composer was somehow inspired by the works he heard, artists he respected and learned from them or from their works. Sometimes in opposition to them too. But each of them wanted to pass to us their own, unique image of his thoughts and feelings, his image of the world. Everything grows in some soil, not in a complete vacuum.

No Time for Hand Made

We are in the age of consumption. We want to have everything quickly in large quantities, conveniently and – fun. Because we get bored quickly. This required rapid and mass production of everything. Agricultural, industrial, also cultural. No more time for hand-made.

Skeptics say: nowadays everything can be ARTIFICIAL: teeth, food, textiles, pictures, music, intelligence, of course! Everything; except - STUPIDITY. It remains ORIGINAL.

All Generalizations Are Wrong

However: The amount of information available, or even possessed, is not yet wisdom. Wisdom is having (and using) reason. Supported by knowledge, of course. It's the same with art. The number of skills or ideas acquired does not create a work of art nor an artist. An artist or a work of art is a talent and personality. Of course, supported by knowledge and skills. And preferably, mastery. Without this, you are just - a mountebank!

Enough words.
